Strategic You – Creating and Achieving Your Visionary 2020

February 6

Individuals and organisations are facing a new landscape in life, work and world defined by volatility, complexity, and ambiguity. Despite these conditions, most of us still focus on the short term and make plans as if the world were predictable.

If you’ve ever received feedback or you know that that you “need to be more strategic,” you know how frustrating it can feel. Often, the feedback rarely comes with any concrete guidance on what to do about it.

Strategic thinking is not only for senior executives, it’s an unwritten part of life, careers and all job descriptions. Recent studies reveal that strategic leaders are the most highly sought after and effective managers and executives and they have a unique advantage in the areas of career advancement, achieving results, salary negotiations, political acumen, networking and making a difference to others.

In this one day workshop, led by Dr Sam Collins, CEO of Aspire, named as ‘One of the Top 200 Women to Impact Business and Industry’ by Her Majesty The Queen and ‘A Woman Shaping the World’ by CNN, you will be able to focus and apply your strategic skills either personally, in your career, for your team or organisational results or in community/social initiatives.

Benefits you will gain:
  • Develop your strategic, visionary and bigger picture thinking skills.
  • Create a vision and ‘chunk down’ your vision into real milestones and goals.
  • Move away from a to do list mentality and focus on what you need really to achieve.
  • Learn to say no effectively and focus on the real priorities.
  • Challenge the status quo and never take the accepted answer for why things happen.
  • Seek diverse views to challenge your thinking with people who see the world differently, and who will help you solve your challenges.
  • Learn to avoid a “heads down” approach to your life and job and “lift up” to observe both internal and external trends.
  • Cope with fear of the unknown, become aware that fear and discomfort are an essential part of strategy.
  • Move away from being seen as a “reliable doer” instead of a “strategic thinker” who can bring others along.
  • Find the time, energy, and discipline to break away from daily activities and being overwhelmed with mundane tasks.
  • Sound strategic, know how to speak the language, prioritise and sequence your thoughts.
  • Fight back the guilt of “Am I doing real work when I’m just sitting thinking?”. Be more determined and less distractible.
  • Find the courage to challenge others and have them take notice. Bring your point of view to the table.
  • Get out of the office for a day to focus on yourself and get out of your comfort zone. Helps to keep you on your toes and out of your inbox!
  • Leave with an action plan, support, accountability that will enable you to achieve, measure and review your successes throughout the year.

Attendees: Managers, directors, executives from corporate, small/medium business, professional services, academia, government and charities. Open to women and men.

“I found the Strategic You workshop really valuable. I really enjoyed the space to think and came away with a practical framework to tackle my challenges going forward.”

Rina Amin

Global Head of Digital Strategy, Janus Henderson Investors

“Truly inspirational, and personally for me, the Strategic You workshop was life changing. It was one of the best workshops I have ever attended; an extremely interactive and engaging day where you went away with key action points rather than just 'theory'.”

Nisha Manaktala

Head of IT, AutoProtect Limited

"I chose the 'Strategic You' event to help me focus on key priorities (work and home) for the next year or so. The event gave me a lot more; I had real clarity about my long term aims. The fog lifted and I felt completely refreshed and re-energised about what I wanted to do in the future."

Over the past 19 years of Aspire for Equality, we have found that taking the time away from daily life and your organisation provides new inspiration, diverse perspectives, innovative ideas and an escape from ‘business as usual’ that surpasses an internal course or training event where everyone is from the same organisation.

“We had a really positive experience and we’ve received great feedback from our group of female employees who have participated in events to date. Would I recommend Aspire for Equality? Absolutely!” – Laura Howard, Global Lead HR Business Partner, IS, Astrazeneca

“A massive thank you for an incredibly thought provoking workshop….we now have 30+ women empowered to share some messages and learning in our organisation.” – Laura Simarro, HR Business Partner, Thames Water Utilities Limited

“It’s been a pleasure to watch the fantastic impact your work has had on our group, to watch people develop from what they have learnt from you and to see so many of them grow as a result of being part of your sessions. What you do is powerful. I too have learnt a lot, grown in confidence, altered my mindset and picked up some bright ideas along the way.” – Kathryn Kennedy, Leadership, Talent & Inclusion, The Home Office

“Over 300 female managers and partners have attended the course over time and the feedback has been incredibly positive. Reports of increased self-confidence, clearer vision in terms of building and progressing careers means a greater chance that these people will stay with us. That is very positive for them as individuals as for us as a business. A win:win.” – Mark Sherfield, Management Executive Partner, BDO LLP

“Great content, fantastic energy and a room full of invigorated, inspired leaders. Thanks for your amazing vision and for taking us all along with you. The vibe though Avtrade has changed since I stumbled across Aspire. Today we’re a force for change, inspiration and encouragement to leaders (whatever gender) and to all staff across the company.” – Tracy Keegan, Director of Contract Management, Avtrade Ltd

“Our group of female leaders are more confident, assertive, better networkers and thriving as a consequence of attending your programme. I am now counting on them to pay that forward by supporting, encouraging and coaching other women who are trying to find their purpose, voice and authentic leadership style in their careers.” – Elizabeth Vega, Global CEO, Informed Solutions

“I left feeling re-energised, re-focused and strong! I have already received feedback from other team members who attended the Aspire workshop who are applying their new-found techniques with positive impact and I am confident they will become a network of trailblazing women within our organisation and beyond.” – Diane Smith, Head of Talent, Learning and Development, Babcock International Group
